Glenorchy City Council will be starting a fortnightly FOGO (Food Organics and Garden Organics) kerbside collection service from February 2020.
A city-wide service is the only way to divert all the green waste and food scraps away from Landfill and is best practice for the environment. Without full participation council cannot divert enough organic waste to successfully run the program and get the best environmental outcome for the lowest possible cost.
However council know that some residents already do an excellent job with their waste and do not put any green waste and food waste in their garbage bin.
A FOGO Exemption Policy is being developed, as well as an evaluation process. This will not be an opt-out for people who simply do not want the service, rather an exemption for people who can show that they already divert all their food organic and garden organic waste.
