This week sees the start of National Recycling Week 2020. Why do we have a whole week dedicated to raising awareness of recycling?
Because it all adds up - literally. Household waste is a big problem nationwide - it's expensive to collect and process, and has many negative environmental impacts. 😟 In volume terms, in Glenorchy alone we collected 7,553 tonnes of waste from kerbside bins last year. Nationally, Australians send more than 67 million tonnes* a year to landfill.
It's always a great time to think about ways you can cut down your own waste (and save money), this video has some great tips. Spoiler Alert:
🙅♀️ Rethink your purchases, don’t buy new if suitable second-hand options are available.
👍Reduce how much you use – it's smart to be thrifty!
🧠Reuse or repurpose where possible
♻️ Be a good sort and Recycle Right! Follow kerbside bin guidelines, research local drop off options, and use your FOGO bin to recycle food and garden waste into healthy compost for Tasmanian farmers.🌱
